- Strengthening regional cooperation is necessary
The Acting
Director of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina
(FIPA) Marko Kubatlija had a meeting with the Consul General of the Republic
of Serbia in Banja Luka Miloš Vujić with whom he exchanged information on
current economic trends and the state of the economies of the two countries, as
well as the possibility of cooperation on additional investments of Serbian
companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Serbia is the 3rd
largest investor in BiH, with an amount of 2,427 million BAM until December
2022. Despite the fact that there are more than 700 companies operating in BiH
with capital from Serbia, it was noted that there is interest in investing in
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For this reason,
Mr Kubatlija initiated and proposed the joint organization of business meetings
between project owners and companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and companies
from Serbia.
FIPA has more
than 400 projects of domestic companies, local communities and entities in its
database. It was established that a special focus should be put Serbian
companies that export to BiH and that they should open production facilities in
BiH.
In December
2023, Acting Director Kubatlija was a member of a delegation from BiH led by
the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac at a
meeting with the Minister of Internal and External Trade of Serbia Tomislav
Momirović. On this occasion, further steps were agreed in the sense of the regional
connections and strengthening of administrative capacities, and increasing
control of border crossings between the two countries.
