- In 2017, BiH records 758.4 million BAM – GROWTH OF 57.3%
According to the published preliminary data of the Central Bank
of BH, foreign direct investments for 2017 amount to 758.4 million BAM (387.8
million EUR), which represents an increase of 57.3% compared to 2016.
This is a significant increase, considering
that in recent years in BiH, there has been mainly a decline in foreign
investment inflows.
Considering the fact that in November 2017 the
initial documents on realization of the investment in TE Kamengrad - Sanski
Most (2x350 MW) were signed in the amount of about 1.5 billion BAM thanks to
the FIPA efforts, last year is ranked as one of the most successful in
attracting foreign investment in BiH.
We expect this positive trend of growth in
inflows of foreign direct investments in the coming period, despite numerous
difficulties of objective and subjective nature. However, in order to make
direct foreign investments in BiH in billions of BAM, it is necessary that the
Council of Ministers of BiH, as FIPA has previously proposed, finance and realize
the advertising campaign "Invest in BiH" in the leading world media,
and introduce incentives for foreign investors for every new job created, as
almost countries in the region did (for example, Serbia gives between 3,000 to
7,000 EUR to foreign investors for every new job opened.
The growth of foreign investment inflows
indicates that the measures implemented from the Reform Agenda have led to the stimulation
of the economic growth, including export growth, and that the authorities have
made great efforts to achieve this result.
The growth of economic indicators in the
country, which implies the creation of new jobs for the BiH citizens,
additionally encourages and motivates to continue to work on the implementation
of economic reforms in the country, which are necessary if it wants to continue
with a growth.
It should be added that in order to continue
improving the economic situation in the country, an even stronger work on the
promotion of the country abroad is needed in order to attract new foreign
investments.
It is also relayed on a stronger engagement of
the BiH economic diplomacy in this field, which FIPA managed to significantly animate
in the last two years.
