FIPA and USAID organized a conference on creating a better business environment through the removal of barriers in the justice sector

The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) and USAID organized a conference of "Foreign Investors and Justice Sector - Creating a Better Business Environment through the Removal of Barriers in the Justice Sector" on 3rd April 2013 at the Hotel Bristol in Sarajevo.
 

The conference discussed the regulations which must be immediately amended in order to create a more favourable business environment, the need for a new step toward barriers elimination in the justice sector, and the interest in enhancing the justice sector activities for improving the environment for increasing the domestic and foreign investments.

The Director of FIPA Jelica Grujić said that the goal of today’s conference is to draw attention to the necessity of adopting the legislation requirements of the economy, of local and foreign investors; that in B&H there are a number of laws and regulations that are not harmonized with one another, and there is a possibility that several institutions interpret them differently.

The FIPA Representative FIPA Maida Becirovic spoke about the obstacles for foreign investors related to the legal sector, among which are Law on Enforcement, Law on Bankruptcy, tax legislation, etc. Suggestions are given for amendments to these laws in order to make the business environment more efficient.

Nikolas Hill, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy, Gerald Meyerman, Head of the Project "Development of the Legal Sector" of USAID, the Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton Fikret Plevljak, the representative BIGMEV's Almir Mukaca, the representative of the Foreign Investors Council of B&H (FIC) Sead Miljkovic, foreign investors running business in B&H, representatives of the B&H Parliament addressed participants.

The conference was attended by the Council of Ministers of B&H representatives, the Government of FB&H and the Government of RS representatives, representatives of the cantonal governments, representatives of foreign embassies accredited in B&H, foreign investors doing business in the country, as well as representatives of the IFC, FIC, DHK, etc.
