The Most Important Foreign Investors in BiH Selection Event for 2020 and 2021

The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of BiH (FIPA) organized on 6 December 2021 in Sarajevo “Event of Selection of the most Significant Investors in BiH for 2020 and 2021”. This year, the concept of the event was partially changed to include companies for 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic of the Corona virus.

In this way, FIPA wants to express respect and gratitude to foreign companies that invest in BiH, contributing thus to the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, employment of the BiH citizens, and the growth of all other economic indicators based on these investments.

Ten (10) selected companies in 2020 invested a total of 105 million BAM in BiH, and the number of employees is 1098.

Six (6) selected companies in 2021 invested a total of about 64 million BAM, and the number of workers they employ is 1520.

According to preliminary data from the Central Bank of BiH, in the first half of 2021, foreign investments reached the amount of 766.2 million BAM, while the inflow of foreign investments in 2020 amounted to 678.2 million BAM.

Given the positive effects on the domestic economy and the image of the country created by each new foreign investor, FIPA will continue to work with other relevant institutions in BiH to improve the business environment, and thus improve the country's competitiveness and increase foreign investment in BiH.

 Rewarded companies for 2020, coming from different industries, are:

TEMAX doo ORAŠJE

New production of XPS insulation boards was launched in 2020, a total of 20 million were invested and 20 new jobs were created.

ALPINA-BROMY doo TEŠANJ

6 million BAM were invested in new modern equipment - footwear production and 85 new workers were employed. 40 new employees in 2021

PRIVREDNI PREPOROD doo BANJA LUKA

Production of paints and varnishes started in Višegrad, total investment amounts to 3 million BAM, in 2020, 20 workers were employed. Two (2) projects related to the Lješljani mine are planned.

KOALA AUTOMOTIVE doo TUZLA

1 million BAM was invested in 2020 in the construction of a toy production plant and 120 new jobs were created in 2020. The total number of employees is 268.

MONTI doo SARAJEVO

The company is owner of the newly opened O3 hotel on Igman. The value of the investment is 14 million BAM and it has 45 employees.

CINE STAR doo SARAJEVO

The largest cinema company in the region in 2020, opened a new, its seventh multiplex cinema in BiH. Investment value is 12 million BAM.

LONGWOOD doo CAZIN

In 2020, 6.7 million BAM were invested in starting the production of panel furniture. Total number of employees is 50.

SYMPHONY Group

The company operates in the IT industry. Investment in development in 2020 amounted to about 12 million BAM. There currently have 123 employees.

SARAJEVSKI KISELJAK DOO KISELJAK

The investor is Fortenova Group d.d., Croatia (owner of Sarajevski kiseljak d.o.o.)

The total number of employees is 358. The value of the investment in 2020 is 20 million BAM, and there were 20 newly employed workers in 2020.

In 2020, a new modern factory was opened in Kreševo, as the first large production investment of the Fortenova Group, in which about 20 million BAM were invested, from which a new product was placed at the market - natural mineral water Sara.

HIDRAULIKA FLEX doo LAKTAŠI

In 2020, 8 million BAM were invested. It has a total of 75 employees.

The rewarded companies for 2021, which come from different industries, are:

ECO ENERGY doo GRAČANICA

The company is engaged in the production of electricity. The total investment is 11 million BAM. In 2021, a total of 2.3 million BAM was invested. It has a total of 50 employees, of which 5 new employees in 2021.

AFT BOSNIA doo ŽIVINICE

The company is dealing in the automotive industry. In 2021, about 6 million BAM were invested, the total number of workers is 200, in 2021, 20 new workers were employed.

CABLEX BH LAKTAŠI

Manufacture of electricity distribution and control apparatus. A total of about 7 million BAM has been invested so far. In 2021, about 600,000 BAM were invested. In 2021, 40 new workers were employed. The company has a total of 450 employees, of which 400 in Aleksandrovac and 50 in Prijedor.

VIRGIN PULSE doo TUZLA

The company operates in the IT industry. It has 530 employees, while the total investment is about 40 million BAM.

TRANSCOM WORLDWIDE doo TUZLA

The company deals with customer support. The total number of workers in BiH is 245, and it is planned to grow to 300 workers by the end of the year.

CINEPLEXX BH doo SARAJEVO

In 2021, a new cinema opened.

Global Investment Promotion Best Practices 2012 of the World Bank has cited one example of support that FIPA provides to foreign investors who are running business in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to contribute to increase the flow of foreign capital in the country.

The article said:  

„The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) of Bosnia and Herzegovina was an early convert to the idea of providing facilitation services to agribusiness investors as a way to maximize the positive impact of agriculture on the economy.

In 2007, for example, FIPA assisted a Dutch food processing company establish a US$1.6 million production facility to process unused milk ingredients into value-added products in Sarajevo to sell to markets in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

As part of its aftercare program, FIPA assisted the company with its expansion plans. Among other things, the agency helped facilitate veterinary permissions, navigate various bureaucratic hurdles and played an important role in securing funding for the company’s expansion. It also helped develop a network of local suppliers and customers. As a result of these efforts, the Dutch investor developed stronger links with the Bosnian economy, thus increasing the positive spillover effects on the local economy.

Currently a new investment to establish a drying facility for milk powder is under way. This will further expand the processing facilities of unused milk ingredients. This additional planned investment is worth approximately US$2.8 million, thus nearly trebling the company’s original investment in the country“.
